Over the course of the year we receive news of mission work in various parts of the world and it is thrilling to know that we can play a part in that work through our prayers and financial giving. Like other Free Church congregations, Smithton-Culloden contributes to the support of Free Church missions in South Africa, South America, India and the Islamic world.
We remember too Finlay and Christine Mackenzie's work with the Service to Overseas Students (SOS) in Glasgow. Students from all over the world attend their services and are welcomed into their home. Here in Inverness, we too can share in this ministry of hospitality by offering an international student a weekend away from the city.
The Deacons' Court also allocates congregational funds to other groups beyond the Free Church.
Our three principal interests are:
Africa Inland Mission: AIM works alongside Africa's churches. We have contributed both to the support of Marsali Campbell and to the work of Dwelling Places in Uganda.
Emmaus Road Trust: Colin Macpherson works with ERT to promote indigenous Christian publishing in East Europe. We have recently helped finance the publication in Albania of a book called Preaching with Purpose and the publication of the first ever Bible commentary in the Lithuanian language.
Tearfund: Tearfund works with the world's poor. Several members of our congregation are involved with Tearfund at local, national and international levels.
