Here are the current members of staff at Smithton-Culloden Free Church.
Rev David Meredith came to Smithton-Culloden Free Church in September 1984. David was brought up in Paisley and Skye. He later graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, before studying theology at the Free Church College in Edinburgh. Smithton-Culloden is his first and only charge. David is married to Nina and they have four children. He names among his other interests politics and motorbikes and says he has a sense of humour.
This post is currently vacant. Applications are invited until 30 September 2007. For more information, please contact us.
Ali MacDonald was appointed in October 2004 to co-ordinate our work among families in the congregation and in the community. She has been a member of the congregation for many years and has been heavily involved in work with young people both in Smithton and in the wider Free Church, having led many summer camps. Ali lives life in the fast lane; she begins each day with a swim and fits in more in 24 hours than most of us accomplish in a week.
Eric Halkett joined the staff in September 2006, having retired to Inverness from Hamilton with his wife Morag the previous July, in order to be closer to their son and his family. This was something of a return to Eric's roots, for his grandfather was a Hospital Sergeant in the Cameron Highlanders. Another Strathclyde graduate, Eric previously worked in electrical engineering and computer programming and has always been very involved with the Boys' Brigade. His other interests include hillwalking and Scottish country dancing.
Fiona MacArthur was appointed administrator in December 2006. Her formative years were spent in Argyll, the Borders, Wigtownshire and Ross-shire, she studied in Aberdeen, married Lewis-born James in Inverness and they brought up their three children in Balloch (and Smithton Free Church). Thus passed the first half-century, in a flash. Fiona dabbles in local history and admits to being a control freak, which means there are now two of them on the staff.
Laura MacGowan is the one we must thank for keeping the church spick and span. Born and brought up in Zimbabwe, Laura was already a Christian when she moved to the UK at the age of 17. She trained as a nurse and for ten years attended a Baptist church in Guildford, where she met and married Andrew. Together they moved north in 1998 and now have two young children. As well as her family and church commitments, Laura is actively involved in various community groups and committees.
