Here are the current members of staff at Smithton-Culloden Free Church.
Rev David Meredith came to Smithton-Culloden Free Church in September 1984. David was brought up in Paisley and Skye. He later graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, before studying theology at the Free Church College in Edinburgh. Smithton-Culloden is his first and only charge. David is married to Nina and they have four children. He names among his other interests politics and motorbikes and says he has a sense of humour.
Rev Murdo Macleod (aka Mud) is Assistant Minister with special responsibility for the work in Nairn, where he and his wife Maggie and two children live. Born and brought up in Glasgow, to Lewis parents, his favourite colour is blue. Before studying for the ministry, Mud worked with The Banner of Truth Trust in Edinburgh for many years. He has an extensive repertoire of corny jokes which he is happy to share with anyone who will listen.
Charlie Anderson ensures the smooth running of the church. Having been in Smithton since the early years, and having served as an elder and as Church Treasurer for most of that time, Charlie has intimate knowledge of the workings of the church. He has also been involved in children's work and small group leadership and, with his wife Susan and two children, has offered hospitality to many over the years. Now in (early) retirement, he relishes fresh challenges.
Ali MacDonald co-ordinates our work among families in the congregation and in the community. She has been a member of the congregation for many years and has been heavily involved in work with young people both in Smithton and in the wider Free Church, having led many summer camps. Ali lives life in the fast lane; she fits in more in 24 hours than most of us accomplish in a week.
Ethan Smith joins us from Florida with his wife Holly. He was brought up in a Christian home and has trusted Christ since early childhood. A Psychology graduate, he comes to us with wide experience of youth work in the USA and is a technologically savvy Mac man. Ethan has quickly adapted to the Scottish culture - and weather - but he does miss an American cheeseburger.
Eric Halkett retired to Inverness from Hamilton with his wife Morag. This was something of a return to Eric's roots, for his grandfather was a Hospital Sergeant in the Cameron Highlanders. Another Strathclyde graduate, Eric previously worked in electrical engineering and computer programming and has always been very involved with the Boys' Brigade. His other interests include hillwalking and Scottish country dancing.
Laura MacGowan was born and brought up in Zimbabwe and was already a Christian when she moved to the UK at the age of 17. She trained as a nurse and for ten years attended a Baptist church in Guildford, where she met and married Andrew. Together, they moved north in 1998 and now have two young children. Laura is actively involved in various community groups.
