Burning bush
Smithton-Culloden Free Church
our services
Sunday 09:30, 11:00 and 18:30 (all year)

Our worship services are based on the Bible; we read from it, preach from it and even sing from it. The other element of our services is prayer. Before we enter the service, there is an opportunity to give back to God part of what he has given to us by means of a monetary offering. These offerings are presented to God as an act of worship by the minister in prayer.

> reading

We have at least one reading from the Bible in each of our services so that God can speak to us through his word. Readings are from the New International Version of the Bible.

> prayer

The minister or one of the elders leads the congregation in prayer. We praise God and thank him for his goodness to us, and we confess our sins. We also pray for our own congregation, the wider community and the world at large.

> preaching

The minister explains the teaching from God's word and applies it in the twenty-first century. He often selects a book of the Bible and preaches a series of sermons from it.

> singing

Our song book is the book of Psalms. A precentor leads the singing and we sing a cappella, unaccompanied by musical instruments. A few people sing harmonies. We use both the 1650 Scottish Psalter and newer versions of the psalms.
